Welcome
Nestled between the rugged gold-bearing gulches of Coarsegold and the oak groves of Oakhurst, Gulch & Grove is dedicated to celebrating the natural world through the written word, art, and community. We believe that every landscape has a story, and our mission is to share the voices and visions of those who find inspiration in nature—whether they live in the Sierra Nevada or far beyond.
Through the pages of the Gulch & Grove Journal, we aim to build connections—between writers and readers, and between the works that define us and the landscapes that inspire them. Whether you’re a poet, an author, a visual artist, or simply someone who finds solace in the written word, we invite you to share your voice and become a part of our growing community.

Our story
Gulch & Grove was born from a love of the Sierra Nevada’s landscapes and the stories that run through them. Inspired by the rugged canyons and shady oak groves of Coarsegold and Oakhurst, we’re here to capture the voices of the foothills and share them with the world.
We’re thrilled to announce that the first issue of the Gulch & Grove Journal will be published soon. This biannual publication will feature poetry, essays, short stories, and visual art that explore the intersection of nature, history, and community. We’re excited to share powerful stories from both local voices and contributors from afar who find beauty and meaning in the natural world.
Are you a writer, artist, or photographer inspired by nature? We want to hear from you! Our first call for submissions will open soon, and we’re looking for work that captures the spirit of the Sierra Nevada foothills or explores the broader themes of wilderness, conservation, and place-based storytelling.
Submission guidelines will be available here on our website, so check back soon or sign up for our newsletter to be notified the moment submissions open.
